The sun heats your roof and walls, and attic temperatures can climb to nearly 170°F. In a poorly insulated home, that heat enters about as fast as your AC can remove it, so the AC runs all day and the house still feels warm. Knauf EcoBatt® insulation is made with ECOSE® Technology, a binder made from rapidly renewable, bio-based materials instead of the petroleum-based chemicals used in traditional fiberglass. According to Knauf, it reduces binder embodied energy by up to 70% and contains no phenol, formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colors. That's why it's naturally brown.

Do you remove the old insulation first?
In most cases, yes. Old insulation that's compressed, wet or contaminated by rodents should come out before new insulation goes in.
